Handwritten note on an open cookbook during dinner preparation asks, “What is here right now that I have not really noticed?” illustrating mindful living in everyday life.

I Can Receive What This Moment Is Giving

Sometimes I move through my day as though every moment is simply leading to the next one.

Finish the coffee.
Fold the laundry.
Answer the message.
Get through the workout.
Make dinner.
Move on.

And then I wonder why a day can feel rushed even when nothing is actually wrong.

I am learning that depth is not always somewhere else.

Sometimes I am simply moving too quickly to notice what is here.

The warmth of the coffee in my hands.

A few quiet minutes before the day gets louder.

Something one of my boys says while I am doing something else.

The way the air feels when I step outside.

A moment at dinner when everyone is together and, for a second, I realize: this is my life.

None of these moments have to become profound.

I do not have to force gratitude or turn every ordinary thing into a lesson.

But I can become a little more available to what is already happening.

Instead of asking only, What do I need to get done next?

I can sometimes ask:

What is here right now that I have not really noticed?

Maybe nothing changes around me.

Maybe I just stop rushing past it.

And perhaps that is enough to let an ordinary moment feel like part of my life instead of something I moved through on the way to somewhere else.
