I Am Becoming More Fully Myself
For a long time, I thought growth meant becoming better.
Better at handling things.
Better at staying calm.
Better at being disciplined, confident, loving, productive, or sure of myself.
There is nothing wrong with wanting to grow.
I still want to learn. I want to become more peaceful, more honest, more connected to God, and more able to live the life that feels true to me.
But I am beginning to notice that there are two very different ways I can try to change.
One begins with:
There is something wrong with me. I need to become better.
The other begins with:
I love this life. I want to become more fully myself inside it.
They do not feel the same.
One feels like a finish line that keeps moving.
The other feels like an invitation.
So lately I have been trying to ask a different question.
Not:
How can I become better?
But:
What would it look like to become more fully myself?
Maybe it means noticing what feels true instead of automatically doing what I think I should.
Maybe it means being more honest about what I need.
Maybe it means trusting what I value.
Maybe it means letting myself be quieter when I am quiet and expressive when I have something I want to say.
Maybe it means making more room for God, curiosity, connection, health, creativity, and the people I love.
Maybe becoming more fully myself is not about constructing a better version of me.
Maybe some of it is letting go of what I learned I was supposed to be.
I can still change.
I can still stretch.
I can still become braver, wiser, and more loving.
But I do not have to treat myself like a project that must be completed before I am allowed to belong in my own life.
Maybe growth is not always about adding more.
Maybe sometimes it is about coming home.
